Aquaculture & Shrimp Farming Project

...January 2008 with a total cost of Rs. 1997.303 aimed to promote and develop aquaculture and shrimp farming in Pakistan. The project was closed due to 18th amendment in the Constitution of Pakistan. The work done under this project is given below:
  1. The Sindh Fisheries Department Shrimp Hatchery has been renovated and become operational with a total cost of Rs. 15.4 million.
  2. Marine Fisheries Department Shrimp Hatchery has also been renovated with a total cost of Rs. 15.9 million.
  3. Construction work of new hatchery at  D.I. Khan has been completed and after installation of tube well and electricity the hatchery would be operationalized.
  4. Construction of new shrimp hatchery at Jiwani is near to completion with a total cost of Rs. 49.0 million.
  5. Site surveys at Okar, Daband, Panwan, Kalmat and Sonmiani has been done and a study had been conducted for tidal data, soil analysis, topographic survey, etc. The study was conducted for establishment of 11 shrimp farms at the coast of Balochistan.
  6. Cage Fish Farm was established at five sites viz. Mangla Dam, Merani Dam, Keenjhar Lake, Khanpur Dam and Dhurabi Dam for experiment purpose in respect of introduction of new technology in the country.
  7. Several training program, workshops and seminar were convened under this project including cageculture fish farming training to private and public sector, etc.
  8. A small scale fish feed mill was established in NARC Fisheries Section.
  9. Fisheries Management Wing of Ministry of Ports and Shipping has been strengthened with a provision of Rs. 26 million.
